Aluminum Composite Panels

Aluminum Composite Panels are light-weight composite material consisting of two pre-finished 0.02" thick aluminium cover sheets heat-bonded (laminated) to a core made of polyethelene plastic.

They come in 3mm, 4mm, and 6mm thicknesses (the aluminum sheets remain 0.02" thick), and can be curved, and bent to form corners. With certain techniques, it may be bent to have tight outside corners bent at 90-deg.

The 0.02" thick sheets of Aluminum are pre-finished, meaning they are pre-painted, with an extremely durable paint system called Kynar. This paint stands up to exterior weather for 20+ years without fading, chalking, or peeling. The color of the paint can be standard or custom, with virtually any color and finish being possible.

High Pressure laminates

WHAT IS A LAMINATE?

Laminates are surface coating materials produced by impregnating papers with melamine formaldehyde and phenol formaldehyde resins and pressing them under high temperature and pressure. There are two kinds of laminate products depending on the pressing and production techniques:

High Pressure Laminate (HPL)

Low Pressure Laminate (CPL)

There are three types of high pressure laminates based on their application :

Post Forming Laminate

Standard Laminate

Compact Laminate

HIGH PRESSURE LAMINATE (HPL) HPL is produced by multi-layered presses after a period of 60-90 minutes under 220-485lbs/0.15sq.feet (100-120 kg/cm 2) pressure and 338F(170 0C) temperatures. The high pressure and temperature provides molecular compaction of the mass and avoids formation of bacteria. For this reason, it is highly preferred by medical institutions. High pressure laminates have both vertical and horizontal uses. The production is made in three different stages.

Preparation of the paper,

Pressing,

Dimensioning.

CONTINUOUS PRESSURE LAMINATE (CPL) This is also known as roll laminate. It is produced in between steel bands stretched in between two drums, and under 338F (170C) temperature and 55-110lbs/0.15sq.feet (25-50 kg/cm 2) pressure. It is then cooled and rolled around a spool. ADVANTAGES OF USAGE OF LAMINATE OVER THE OTHER MATERIAL

It is highly resistant to abrasion, breaking and failure.

It has very low water-absorbing capacity.

It is highly resistant to high temperatures (20 minutes at 356F (180C).

It is highly resistant to moisture.

The vertical and horizontal application of the material allows design flexiblility for commercial & residential use.

It has attractively low cost compared to wood coating.

It has post forming features.

APPLICATION FIELDS OF LAMINATE

In residential ; as kitchen and bathroom cabinets, kitchen countertops, doors, bedroom furniture and more.

In schools ; as student’s desks, tables, teacher’s desks and doors, storage cabinets and more

In offices ; as desks, wall covering office furniture and more

Installations

Installation & Cleaning:

Tricore Builders Inc. recommends that Tricore Builders Inc. Material be installed and cleaned in the following ways to ensure longer lasting, newer looking panels.

A. installation

Erect panels plumb, level, and true.

Attachment system shall allow for the free and noiseless vertical and horizontal thermal movement due to expansion and contraction for a material temperature range of -20°F to +180°F (-29°C to +82°C). Buckling of panels, opening of joints, undue stress on fasteners, failure of sealants or any other detrimental effects due to thermal movement will not be permitted. Fabrication, assembly, and erection procedure shall account for the ambient temperature at the time of the respective operation.

The panels shall be erected according to an approved set of shop drawings.

Anchor panels securely by engineering recommendations and according to approved shop drawings to allow for needed thermal movement and structural support.

Installation of concealed fasteners must conform to panel fabricator’s instructions.

Component parts, which look to be defective, including; bowed, dented, warped, abraised, or broken, should not be installed.

Component parts should not be cut, trimmed, welded, or brazed during erection in a way which would decrease the strength of the panel, damage the finish, or result in visual imperfection or a failure in performance.

Dissimilar metals should be separated and gasketed fasteners should be used when needed to eliminate the possibility of corrosive or electrolytic action between metals.

B. Adjusting and cleaning

Damaged panels beyond repair as a direct result of the panel installation should be removed and replaced. Panel repair and replacement shall become the responsibility of the General Contractor after installation.

Panels should be repaired if the damage is minor.

Masking (if used) should be removed as soon as possible after installation. Masking intentionally left in place after panel installation on an elevation, shall become the responsibility of the General Contractor.

Any additional protection after installation shall be the responsibility of the General Contractor.

Weep holes and drainage channels should be unobstructed and free of dirt and sealants.

The final cleaning shall not be part of the work of this section.
